The 2nd annual Keira’s Winter Klassic was a resounding success! Once again, the tournament hosted eight U12 A2/A3 teams, this time holding our tournament indoors at Kirkfield Westwood Community Club’s Keith Bodley Arena, 360 Sansome Ave. The move to an indoor venue was an excellent decision given that the weekend arrived with temperatures in the -30s with the windchill!
Keira’s Winter Klassic action began Friday night, with round robin play continuing all day Saturday and Sunday, and playoffs scheduled late Sunday afternoon. Between games, teams were able to attend their own mini inspiHER session courtesy of Karina Walker and Rising Strong. Players and spectators alike were able to participate in all the excitement that KWK had to offer: face painting, bake sale, silent auction, glitter tattoos, apparel, candy table, Keira’s Krusade customized ringette pillows, and more! A social evening, complete with a fun Christmas theme, was held at Heritage Victoria Community Club on Saturday night.
Community support was evident as families, friends, ringette fans, and members of the general community came out in full force. The gold medal match saw host team Sturgeon Heights Boom (bearing Keira’s nickname) triumph over Corydon Comets in an exciting 3-2 victory! And, to top it all off, an impressive $22,025.74 was raised, all of which will go to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation via Keira’s Krusade to fight pediatric brain cancer. The organizers could not have done it without the care and generosity of all of their supporters – and would like to extend their thank you to all!
