NRL is back in Manitoba! Come watch their home opening this weekend, Saturday October 29th Saturday at 11:30 and 7:15pm at Seven Oaks and Sunday at 1pm at Billy Mosienko
It’s been three years since we last had a team in Manitoba , since the 2012/2013 season. The National Ringette Leagues hosts a total of sixteen teams, with 11 teams in East (Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick), and 5 teams in the West ( BC, Alberta, and Manitoba). With seventeen players on Manitoba Intact NRL, these players are in peak physical condition and commit several hours a week. They are expected to provide their own physical training away from the rink which takes 3 to 6 hours a week about 3x a week in addition to a once a week program mandated by the team.
Practicing 2 to 3 hours per week, they play 24 games in a regular season over 7 weekends, 15 exhibition games from season start to finish against various AA, Open Elite and past NRL/AA players.
There is one DAP – developmental affiliate player – girls on U19AA rosters that are 3rd year and considering entering the draft for the NRL in the following season. There is no limit to the number of games these girls play with an NRL team but there is no guarantee that they will ever play in their DAP year. They are welcome to practice as much as they can with the team.
The prospect for these players after NRL is to try out for Team Canada, as NRL is the scouting, proving and developmental grounds for the National team programs, Team Canada their next level of play sought by players in the league. The interesting thing about these players is that each one is involved in giving back to the sport, either coaching, officiating, or instructing.
Come and watch the home opening games this weekend at Seven Oaks Saturday, 1130am and 715pm, Sunday, 1pm at Billy Mosienko. There will be an opportunity to meet the players and an autograph signing.
Our games are going to be packed with things to do for the fans – music, half time activities, opportunities for prizes, raffles, sing-off and dance-off competitions between teams in attendance, all kinds of stuff is planned for our upcoming weekends.
